| 1. Who can audition? You may audition if: - If you have been accepted to attend FIU beginning Summer or Fall 2010* * (High school seniors may audition as long as you have been accepted into the university.PROOF OF ACCEPTANCE REQUIRED Will need to be a full time student taking 12 credits. - If you have health insurance. Will need a copy of insurance card. - You are willing to give 110% dedication to the team. 2. Can I pre-register for auditions? yes. Please see link below or click here to fill out registration form. 3. Do I need to pre-register? No , you may also bring your completed form to auditions with you. However, pre-registering expedites your registration process when you get there. It is much easier to do it ahead of time. It is strongly recommended. 4. Do you offer an audition clinic? yes! click here for all of the information. (NOT mandatory in order to audition) 5. What do I need to bring on audition day? You need to bring your $ 5.00 cash audition fee, your completed registration form (unless you are pre-registered), a copy of your acceptance letter into the university or your current Panther ID# if you are already an FIU student, a copy of your current health insurance card and 2 pictures of yourself ( a head shot and a full body shot). 6. What do I need to wear on audition day? Dancers are encouraged to wear something that makes them stand out. Dress to impress. You MUST wear a torso bearing top. Proper dance shoes must be worn. NO street clothes allowed, NO baggy shirts and NO street shoes allowed either. Hair should be worn lose and not picked up. You should also wear full make up and most importantly a big smile. 7. Do I need to bring my own routine? No, you will be taught a routine to audition with. 8. What should I expect from the audition process? Upon arrival you will be asked to turn in a completed registration form with all of the requirements listed above. In return, you will receive your audition number for the remainder of the day. You will be asked to stretch and warm up on your own. The choreographer will then teach the audition combination. Once it has been taught, you will be broken up into groups of 3 and be asked to perform what you learned for the judges. After the group performance, you will be asked individually to perform separate technique skills such as triple turns, a la seconde turns, toe touch, switch leaps, russian and side tilt jumps. Once everyone has had a chance to audition, the judges will retrieve to calculate the audition scores and choose the 10-11 squad. This usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Once the judges return, the new squad is announced! 9. What if I don't have a lot of technique but I am a really good dancer, can I still audition? yes 10. Does this team compete? yes. The team has been competing at the NDA Collegiate Dance Championships since 1992. Making the squad DOES NOT guarantee you a spot on the nationals team. 11. How many dancers are you picking? We willbe looking for up to 25 dancers total. 12. Can my mom/boyfriend/ friend watch auditions? yes, there is a $ 10.00 spectator fee for those NOT auditioning that would like to watch. 13. How many times a week do you practice? Check out our ALL ABOUT US page on this website for all of this information. 15. I work, will I be able to meet the team's required activities? It's up to you. The team demands a lot of time but it can be done if you are organized and can manage your time wisely. 16. Do you travel with the athletics teams? On occassion we are extended an invitation to travel with the teams. This is awarded by attendance hierarchy. The Dazzlers travel to the Sun Belt Championships every March to dance at the Men and Women's Basketball Championships supporting our Golden Panthers! 17. Why audition for the Golden Dazzlers? Why not.? The dance team has been at Florida International University since 1989. If you are passionate about dance and would like to continue dancing through college then this is the team for you. The FIU Golden Dazzlers is the ONLY team recognized by the unversity as the official dance team to represent the Athletics Department at Florida International University. It's the only dance team to perform at athletic games such as football and basketball, the only dance team that gets an operational budget by the university, the only dance team that boasts a team poster and calendar, the only dance team that travels to some way games, the only dance team that competes annually at the NDA College Championships in Daytona and the only dance team that is truly a sisterhood. It is naturally, the ONLY good choice. To put it simply, nothing else compares to being a Golden Dazzler. It is an experience that, as a dancer , will make your college experience whole and prepare you for future dance opportunities as well. Once a Dazzler, always a Dazzler. 18. Does the team receive scholarships? Dazzlers, receive all uniforms, dance shoes, boots, gold poms, travel duffel bag, all travel lodging, travel per diem, transportation, FULL book scholarship, early class registration and team poster included as part of their program. 19. If I make the team, when do rehearsals begin? Dancers making the team need to be available on these dates: May 5th First team meeting, 7pm June 12th Dazzler Day Retreat - Noon to 9pm June 14th Rehearsals begin every Monday and Wednesday -6pm to 9pm.
