| 1. Who can audition? You may audition if: - If you are a full time (12 credits) FIU Student from any of the campuses - If you have been accepted to attend beginning Fall 2007* * (High school seniors may audition as long as you have been accepted into the university.* *)* *PROOF OF ACCEPTANCE REQUIRED - If you have health insurance. ** Will need a copy of insurance card. - You are willing to give 110% dedication to the team. 2. Do I need to pre-register? No , you will need to mail your registration form along with your VHS tape or dvd. Exceptions will be ONLY for those e-mailing the audition video. 3. Do you offer an audition clinic? not at this time. 4. What do I need to mail exactly ? You need to mail in a a VHS tape or a DVD with the dance requirements listed below, your $5.00 fee in cash , money order or check made out to CASH, your registration form filled out completely and your 2 pictures ( a headshot & a full body picture) 5. Can I email my audition submission? Yes you can e-mail an audition submission. Please make sure that it is good quality. 6. What do I need to wear for the video taping? Dancers are encouraged to wear something that makes them stand out. Dress to impress. You MUST wear a torso bearing top. Proper dance shoes must be worn. NO street clothes allowed, NO baggy shirts allowed either. Hair should be worn lose and not picked up. You should also wear full make up and most importantly a big smile. 7. Do I need to tape my own routine? Yes, . you will need to tape a 45 second dance routine in your strongest style (pom, jazz or hip hop). Please note that the 45 seconds need to be od DANCING ONLIY. Then, separately, you will be required to show the following as a minimum in order to be considered for the 2007-08 team : 2 consecutive eight counts of right or left a la seconde turns, a clean right or left triple pirouette or more, a clean high toe touch, a clean switch leap to both sides, 2 consecutive eight counts of high kicks. In addition, you may show any other technique you deem suitable. Please include an introduction with your name and something about yourself at the beginning of the tape. 8. What should I expect from the video results process? All tapes will be reviewed and results will be posted online by the end of the week of the set deadlines listed below. 9. What if I don't have a lot of technique but I am a really good dancer, can I still audition? Not at this time. Summer auditions are for Level 3 and 4 only. You can, however, audition in the April 2008 auditions. 10. Does this team compete? yes. The team has been competing at the NDA Collegiate Dance Championships in Daytona for the past 5 years. Making the squad DOES NOT guarantee you a spot on the nationals team. The entire team attends but only about 14 compete. Auditions for the competition team are held during the summer within the dancers that have already made the team and require advanced technique knowledge. 11. How many dancers are you picking?We are looking for up to 10 more dancers to add to our existing team of 20. 12.What is the team's style? Check out our ALL ABOUT US page on this website for all of this information. 14. I work, will I be able to meet the team's required activities? It's up to you. The team demands a lot of time but it can be done if you are organized and can manage your time wisely. 15. Do you travel with the athletics teams? On occassion we are extended an invitation to travel with the teams. This is awarded by attendance hierarchy. The Dazzlers travel to the Sun Belt Championships every March to dance at the Men and Women's Basketball Championships supporting our Golden Panthers! 16. Why audition for the Golden Dazzlers? Why not.? The dance team has been at Florida International University for 17 years. If you are passionate about dance and would like to continue dancing through college then this is the team for you. The FIU Golden Dazzlers is the ONLY team recognized by the unversity as the official dance team to represent the Athletics Department at Florida International University. It's the only dance team to perform at athletic games such as football and basketball,the only dance team that gets an operational budget by the university, the only dance team that boasts a team poster and calendar, the only dance team that travels to away games, the only dance team that competes annually at the NDA College Championships in Daytona and the only dance team that is truly a sisterhood. . It is naturally, the ONLY good choice. To put it simply, nothing else compares to the experience of becoming a Golden Dazzler. 17. Does the team receive scholarships? All Dazzlers, receive all uniforms, dance shoes, boots, gold poms, travel duffel bag, all travel lodging, travel per diem, transportation, partial books, early class registration, team poster and team calendar included as part of their program. 18.What is the deadline to mail in the videotape? There will be 3 video tape deadlines. Please note that it is in your best interest to turn your video in as soon as possible. If we find enough qualified dancers for the 07-08 team by the first deadline then the remaining deadlines will be cancelled. Deadline 1: July 9th, August 13th September 17th. In addition, entering the team late signifies a lot of more missed material and less allowed abcenses. |
